Raleigh Lifestyle Photographers | Top 5 Locations for Photo Sessions around Raleigh

One of the biggest questions I get asked is “Do you have any suggestions for locations for our photo session?”  Why of course!!! There are a million and 1 locations I could recommend photo sessions around Raleigh, but there are some locations that absolutely make my heart skip a beat!  To me, a great photo location is not too crowded, has some gorgeous organic elements that brings alot of texture into your photos, has stunning opportunities to capture some gorgeous light.  And there are a few locations that really encompass alot of these traits… So, here it is….my top 5 favorite locations around Raleigh that will make your heart swoon <3

 Jordan Lake

Say what you will about Jordan Lake…but no one can argue that it isn’t stunning to look at!!!!  Every time I drive through the lake area my heart skips a beat with the vastness & beauty that is Jordan Lake.  Every time I am out here, its hard to believe it’s in Raleigh’s backyard with its echoes of the Pacific Northwest with it’s treelined coasts and rocky beaches.   So stunning!  The combination of textures here really add unique elements to your photos and I know the some perfect secret spots to get some amazing shots.  Perfect for those who want a wild adventurous feel to their photos without having to venture too far from home 🙂

   Occoneechee Mountain

I’m sure you’ve seen them….those super dreamy & romantic mountaintop photos that leave your jaw sitting on your keyboard??!!!?? Right?? Gosh, they are stunning, but not super realistic if you don’t live near mountains…like us here in Raleigh.  Oh, and not to mention having to hike in super duper far to get to the top and then somehow look photo ready when you get there…That’s why I love Occoneechee Mountain. It’s the perfect place for a photo session in Raleigh that has that adventurous, wild feel.  It’s a pretty simple hike and has just the right amount of adventure to lead you to a stunning overlook into a little valley and some awesome boulders.   So easy, the kids could do it…if you’re a little more on the adventurous side…and it’s dog friendly! So you can get your fur babies in there too 🙂

Downtown Raleigh

If the city of Raleigh has your heart…this is a location to consider for your next family photo session.  There are sooo many fun little nooks & crannies to explore downtown Raleigh. Lots of cool textures and unexpected rustic, organic twists.  And if you get up and head downtown first thing Sunday morning before all the bar hoppers come out…you’ve got the place to yourself 🙂  Perfect for those who love the industrial/architectural vibe!

Memorial Forest

This off the beaten path, hidden forest is another of my favorites! It’s a simple location…easy to get to, simple to walk…but, the towering pines & lush greenery are like no other I’ve seen around the area!  And not the mention the enchanted Pine Field that looks like something out of fairy tale!  Perfect place for kids to run free and just be kids!

NC Botanical Garden

Every time I do a photo session here, I am amazed by the beauty.  The NC Botanical is tucked away in the pines in Chapel Hill.  It’s a vast, stunning garden, but still has a wild & earthy feel.  I love the variety of backgrounds it has…from wooded trails, to a historic cabin, to an aromatic herb garden! There is always something beautiful at the NC Botanical Garden to make your photo session stunning!

And Bonus location…because I couldn’t pick just 5!!!

Downtown Cary

I have a feeling this is gonna be one of my new favorite photo session locations! As if Downtown Cary doesn’t have some adorable places already… the new fountain in downtown is breathtaking!!! It looks straight out of the streets of Paris…especially at sunset!  This is a the perfect place for kids to explore & play while capturing some incredible lifestyle family photos!
